Cardiff

The start (or end) of The Taff TrailYou don't have to head into the countryside for some great walks.  Somewhat surprisingly there are some great walks in our towns and cities too, particularly Cardiff.  How's this for a random fact? - Cardiff has more green space per person than any other UK city.  So you see there are plenty of opportunities for walks here.  Okay, so they might not afford the stunning views of the Brecon Beacons or the dramatic sweeps of the coastline but they are certainly crammed full of interesting and historical sites.

Cardiff Centenary Walk 3.5km (2 miles)
A walk through the heart of the city centre highlighting the things you'd normally walk straight past.  There's a leaflet to guide you here {link to leaflet on Cardiff Council site} but a keep a look out for the way makers embedded in the pavement to show you the way.

The Cardiff Bay Trail 10km (6 miles)
You might be familiar with Mermaid Quay, the bar/restaurant/entertainment quarter of Cardiff Bay but there is a lot more to this area of the city than you might think.  And now thanks to a new circular trail you can walk right around the bay taking in sights such as the Pierhead Building, Norwegian Church and the Cardiff Bay barrage from where you get great views back across the bay and the city.

The Taff Trail 93km (55 miles)
The Taff Trail starts (or finishes, depending which directions you're walking in) on the waters' edge in Cardiff Bay.  Before you are 55 miles of track that take you through the city centre, into the Southern Wales valleys, though the Brecon Beacons and on to the market town of Brecon.  Quite a contrast in scenery.  The Cardiff section of the trail takes you past some of the city's most famous landmarks - the Wales Millennium Centre, Millennium Stadium, Cardiff Castle, Llandaf Cathedral and Castell Coch.

Don't forget information on these on other walks in Cardiff are available from our Tourist Information Centres

Alternatively, you might like to try one of the other areas of Southern Wales for more great walking ideas.
